The Godfather the movie, one of the greatest fimls of all time. This is proven by all the awards and nominations it had, plus the fact that everyone knows what it is and its shown on the tv quite a bit. First of all the book covers almost all of the first two movies of The Godfather . There's a bit in the second movie that wasn't in the bookbut that's okay. First of all the storyline which mainly is the fact that the Corleone family is losing it spower because of Sollozzo at least it starts with him. But soon it turns out that both the Tattaglia and Barzini families have been plotting against the Corleones. This eventually proves to be the downfall of the Corleone family. Don Vito Corleone is shot and bedridden for quite a while so Sonny has to take over which means an all out mob war, and eventually with everyone fearing Sonnny's ruthlessness he is taken out. Therefore the Don has to rt=eurn to his post withput fully recovering and end the war which also means getting his youngest son Michael home safely and no vengence for Sonny at least not till later on. So the Don is in the middle of an era of peace with the other families but its a troubled peace because th Corleones have lost almost all their power, and everyone fears that the Don will make a move to destroy the other families. But he doesn't at least not for a few years. Over a period of years Michael who has returned home safely is in training to be the Don, and his street smarts combined with the Dons experience cunning and clever mind and amazing foresight they plan the future if the family. Which means getting their power back and moving the whole family operation to Vegas. Which after careful planning, vengence for Sonny's death is accomplished and the other families are left in shambles. But this also sprouts the rift between Michael and his wife Kay because after Don Vito's death Michael takes over and that means alot of secrets between husband and wife. That's the gist of what happens in the first two movies that's the same as the book.
As far as movie and book they were quite similar the movie was done very well. There are no mjor differences except for the fact that the book expanded more on how perceptive the Don is. It gave ytou insight into soome of the private conversations between Don Vito and his Consigliori Tom Hagen. Another major difference is that the novel was divieded into 10 books and around 3 or 4 of those nooks were all about The Godfathers godson Johnny Fontane the movie hardly even spent time in introducing that character, and for oine I can't blame then the JOhnny Fontane sag is really unnecessary it has no pertinennce to the tale of the Corleones really so that kind of bugged me in the book. So that's a scene that I agree with being left out, and as far as adding scenes they missed an important scene of how the Godfather had his favors repaired so I think they should expand on that. Also I already said they should expand on the innerworkings of Don Vito Corleone's mind.

These are the main characters and the supporting characyers that I felt were important. I believe the casting was well done, They couldn't find anyu one better to play The godfather, Michael and Young Vito Corleone, that was the best part. I felt that Michaels wife could have been better casted, it just seems that the actor seemed to act like a bit of a ditz in the movie which Kay Adams isn't the smartest character in the novel but it was taken a bit too far i9n the movie. Now unfortunatel;y I had seen the movie at least 20 times before reading the book so I couldn't viusual;ize what the characters looked like because I already had a oreset imahge but the descriptions from the book really matched the actors, especially 5the main parts it was as uif they were born to play those parts. Also from what I heard about the movie before I saw it I imagined that Al Pacino and Marlon Brando as their characters before I even knew they were in the movie.
